How do you know that email is from a legitimate source and not some scammer hoping to steal your personal information? It's a problem with which some of the biggest tech companies still struggle, and they are now joining forces to fight the problem.

Through a new organization known as DMARC.org, tech firms like Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and PayPal have created a standard protocol that will be used to measure and enforce the authenticity of emails. In all, 15 email service and tech providers have signed on.
