Project begins in Nepal
Akshaya Patra has started an Earthquake Relief Centralised Kitchen Project in Nepal as a joint initiative with the Jamsetji Tata Trust and Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha. The facility was set up in a record five days by the Foundation's operations team. The kitchen served its first meals in the evening on 19th June to 1,100 people in Bode, one of the eleven camps where Akshaya Patra is providing food.
Since then the centralised kitchen unit has been serving wholesome meals to 5,500 people each morning and evening at the camps in and around Kathmandu. The kitchen is located at Subakamana Party Palace, Suryabinayak Chowk, Bhaktapur.
Sunar Prajapati, camp-in-charge at Byasi near Bhaktapur says, "The food is sufficient and helpful. Now we don't have to struggle to cook anything anymore."
